Year 3 & 4

Homework Expectations:

Reading – Homework expectations require Year 3 and 4 children to be reading at least three times per week. We expect children to bring their book bags to school each day and we also expect that parents/carers sign the Rainbow Reading Challenge card and comment when children have read at home. Sharing a book with a child is important no matter how old they are.

The teachers will stamp the reading challenge cards to monitor progress being made.

Spellings – Children receive a weekly homework task linked to their current learning. In addition, spellings are handed out weekly and tested the following week. Children will be given spellings specific to their year group via the Spelling Shed website.

Maths – Children are given weekly homework linked to their current maths topic and receive additional multiplication practice through weekly times tables tests and the Times Tables Rock stars online platform.

Children in Year 3 should be learning their 3x, 4x and 8x table to be secure in these by the end of the year.

Year 4 children are expected to know times table facts up to 12×12 by the end of the year.

Homework Project – Each term children will be asked to make a choice from a set list for their homework project. These tasks are a chance for children and parents/carers, friends and family to showcase their creative skills working in partnership to produce a final product for display in the hall.

Additional homework will be linked to learning. The Y3/4 Team will prepare a task that will support the children’s learning for the following week. Year 3 and 4 pupils will receive homework on a Friday and handing in days will be stated.
